Our Technology

OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography)
Optical Coherence Tomography, “OCT” for short, is a non invasive technology used for imaging the retina, the multi-layered sensory tissue lining the back of the eye. OCT, the first instrument to allow doctors to see cross-sectional images of the retina, is revolutionizing the early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as macular holes, pre-retinal membranes, macular swelling and macular degeneration, and even optic nerve damage seen in glaucoma.

Visual field analysis/Fundus photography
We are also equipped with a Humphrey® visual field analyzer and a Zeiss fundus camera. Both are also used for documentation, early detection and progression analysis for many eye diseases including glaucoma and retinal disorders, or post stroke or head injury vision loss.

Corneal topography
Corneal topography is a computer assisted diagnostic tool that creates a three dimensional map of the surface curvature of your cornea. Corneal topography has the ability to detect irregular conditions of the cornea which are often invisible to most conventional testing. This state of the art instrument is used in assessing pre and post lasik corneal conditions, as well as corneal health and the fitting of specialty contact lenses.

Optos Retinal Imaging
Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. Dr. Brodie and Dr. Wolford now offer the Optomap Retinal Exam as an important part of our eye exams. The Optomap produces an image that is as unique as your fingerprint and provides the doctor with a wide view to look at the health of your retina. The retina is the part of your eye that captures the image of what you are looking at, similar to film in a camera.

Many eye problems can develop without you knowing. You may not even notice any change in you sight. But, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such s diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.

The Optomap Retinal Exam provides:

  • A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
  • A view of the retina, giving your doctor a more detailed view that she can get by other means.
  • The opportunity for you to view and discuss the Optomap image of your eye with your doctor at your exam.
  • A permanent record for your file, which allows the doctor to view your images each year to look for changes.

The Optomap Retinal Exam is fast, easy, and comfortable for all ages. Call now to schedule your annual eye exam! For more Optomap information visit www.optos.com!

Helpful Tip

Myth: Wearing glasses too much will make the eyes “dependent” on them.

Fact: Refractive errors (near-sightedness, far-sightedness, or astigmatism) change as kids get older. Many variables come into play, but most of this change is likely due to genetics and continues despite wearing glasses earlier or later or more or less. Wearing glasses does not make the eyes get worse.

Dr. Brodie and the staff are always professional and courteous. They treat our family with respect. We switched to Third Avenue Eyecare fifteen years ago and we're very happy we switched!
